It was the final non league games for Holton on Friday night and both Wildcat basketball teams improved to 8-5 on the season with wins at home against Chapman.

GIRLS = Holton 30, Chapman 24

After a slow start, the Holton girls used an 8-0 to take the lead for good as part of a 12-2 second quarter.  Macey Patch scored 13 points and Lindsey Wisdom added 10 as the Lady Cats won their fourth straight game despite making only 4 of 12 free throws. Both teams had more than 17 turnovers and there were no three-pointers made by either team in the low scoring contests.

BOYS = Holton 50, Chapman 39

It looked like a quick night as the Holton boys jumped to a 16-4 first quarter lead. However, much like their 12-0 start earlier in the week against Riverside, the Wildcats hit a lull and got into some foul trouble while protecting a 20-16 halftime advantage. Chapman took a couple leads in the third quarter and tied the game at 29 entering the fourth before Holton used ad 21-10 final period to put the game away.

Holton made nine free throws in the last eight minutes to overcome early struggles at the line and finish 12-24 while Chapman made only 3 of 14 attempts at the charity stripe.  Jake Zeller scored a game high 17 points for the Wildcats including three treys while Tyson Snyder added 12 and Matt Lierz and Jaylen Turner each chipped in 8. to keep Chapman winless this season.

Holton host Jeff West on Tuesday as the Wildcats and other Big 7 teams start the second time through their league schedule.
