Highland Women Roll Past Brown Mackie to Move to Regional Final
By Mike Smith

The #10 ranked, Lady Scotties of Highland looked to make some noise in the playoffs again this season as they hosted Brown Mackie College for the second round of the Region VI playoffs and came out firing and cruised to the 93-53 to advance to the Regional Championship just like last year.

Highland got out to a 45-21 lead at the half and continued to outscored Brown Mackie, outscoring them by 16 in the second half. Scotties used six players in the double figures, 23 Brown Mackie turnovers and and 20 assists on 35 made field goals.

Scotties were lead by Royce Shields as she poured in 21 points to pace Highland and was followed by five others in double figures. Carina Jackson posted 17 for the Scotties, while Janelle Saling and Ashley Torres each put in 12 points and Tamiya Green and Ryann Bowser both posted 10 points.

With the win Highland improves to 26-5 on the season and moves to the Region VI Championship for the second straight year, were their opponent will be a familiar foe, in the #1 ranked, Johnson County Cavaliers (30-1). Highland and Johnson County squared off twice this season and split the series with each team winning on their home floor. Scotties got the best of the Cavaliers early in the season with a 59-56 win at Ben Allen Fieldhouse, while Johnson County responded later in the season with a 77-62 win at their place over Highland.

This time the two teams meet up for the Regional Championship as they did last season with Johnson County coming out on top. The two will square off on the court Saturday March 9th at 1:00pm at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kansas.
